老太太吞下了一隻蒼蠅，真不知道為什麼她要吞下蒼蠅，其他動物都在討論：或許她會死。
老太太吞下了很多東西，最後吞下了一隻馬，當然就死了。
There was an old lady who swallowed a fly 有個老太太吞下了一隻蒼蠅是一首童謠，作家 Simms Taback 也為它畫了一本書，和喬瑟夫有件舊大衣的作者是同一位。這本書的特色，就是每一頁都有一個洞，看得到被老太太吞下肚子的動物，因為動物越來越大，洞也越來越大，這本書在1998年得到凱迪克獎第二名(Caldecott Honor)。
每段內容越加越長，像是建造金字塔一般。開頭是有個老太太吞了一隻蒼蠅，接著她吞了一隻蜘蛛要去抓蒼蠅，吞了一隻鳥去抓蜘蛛，吞了一隻貓去抓鳥，吞了一隻狗去抓貓，吞了一隻山羊去抓狗，吞了一隻母牛去抓山羊，最後吞了一隻馬，當然她就死了！
既然是童謠，就沒有什麼邏輯可言，只是讓小孩子唸起來好玩，所以請不要想：為什麼老太太要吞這些東西？這個故事小朋友聽起來可是特別有趣呢！
